I049742 from Potential Comet Confirmation Page at the Minor Planet Center. Each frame is a stack of 20x2 min images stacked on the motion vector of this new object. In the fifth frame it is clear of background stars and clearly shows a teardrop shaped coma and short tail about 17 arc sec long oriented at about PA 303. Images by D. T. Durig and P. S. Hearn at the Cordell-Lorenz Observatory, The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee, USA. OBS CODE 850.

Images of Comet 29P Schwassmann-Wachmann from Jan 27 (pre-outburst) at 15.8 to 14th mag, Feb 4 (in outburst)at 11.9 to 10.9 mag and Feb 11 (fading but growing in size) at 12.0 to 11.6 mag, all dates UT. Images are 15x2 minute stacks. On 2/11 there was an 11.8 mag star to the upper left of the coma producing the visible asymetry. Images by Dr. D. T. Durig and his students.


Images of Comet 29P Schwassmann-Wachmann from Jan 27 (pre-outburst) at 15.8 to 14th mag, Feb 4 (in outburst)at 11.9 to 10.9 mag and Feb 11 (fading but growing in size) at 12.0 to 11.6 mag, all dates UT.
